집 앞 봄 철 금강 모습

집ㅇ[서 150m 거리에 있는 금강은 온 식구의 아침 저녁 걷기 운동하는 곳입니다

Geum kang river,

It is just 150m away from my house.

The river bank is the place where we take a walk every morning and evening!

한 겨울--집으로 연결된 어지러운 전기줄, 통신선들이 우리를 바깥과 연결시켜줍니다

Wires around my house are the connections to the outside from this remote village

4월10일 씨에서부터 키운 홍도가 처음으로 꽃을 피우다

An ornamental peach variety blooms... It does not produce edible fruits though

매년 700~800 kg의 고구마를 생산하니 아침 끼니는 고구마 1개에 요구르트 한잔, 사과 반쪽--그래도 몸무게는 여전하니...

Chestnut-tasted sweet potato..

We produce almost three quaters of a ton of them each year.

That makes our perfect breakfast.

We also had homade yogurt..

If you say, the chestnuts taste like sweet potato, you are insulting the farmer who grows the chestnut.

이웃동네 이름이 자라벌..

그런데 우리 동네에서 자라가 더 많이 발견되네요

도망가는 자라가 그렇게 빠른지 처음 알았네요..

둑으로 알 나으러 나온 듯

A soft shelled turtle is called "Jara" in Korea.

There used to be too many jaras here. The name of the neighboring village is Jara bul, meaning Jara field.

However, I am seeing many of them in our village. It ran away from me while I tried to take a picture.

It was faster than I expected. They came out to the bank to hatch eggs during Summer.

크기는 작아도 제대로 맛이 들었습니다

내년에는 이것 좀 접붙여야 겠습니다.

It is rather early to taste peaches in the middle of June. My peaches will be ready starting July 5th.

However, my neighbor brought their ultra-early peach variety. It is sweet enough to be called peach! I am going to graft it to my trees next Spring..

우리 집 자두는 아직도 파랗고...

My plums are still green.. so is my expectation of Summer

키위의 암꽃입니다.

가운데 흰 대들이 암술이구요

처음 꽃이 필 때는 안보이다가 나중에 발달합니다.

양 쪽에 수술대가 보이지요?

그런데 자가불화합성인것 같습니다.

숫나무가 없으면 열매가 맺히지 않지요

물론 저 쪼글거리는 손은 제손이구요..

These are female flowers of kiwi plant. The white rod shapes are stigmas. Pistils are yellowish thin rods. However, this plant is not self-fertile. You need to have both female and male plants to produce fruits.

6월20일인데 우리집 키위는 벌써 크기는 거의 된 듯..

200개는 족히 열린것 같네요..

서리가 오고 잎이 떨어질 때까지 구경하며 기다리는 기쁨도 있지요

Kiwi fruits are available to taste only after we have the first frost possibly in late October or early November.

However, look at my fruits, they are already big enough...

I have to endure a long long summer by just looking at them...until they ripe

작년에 효소를 담가봤는데

별맛이어서..

올 해는 앵두처럼 오가며 입에 털어넣는데

너무 많이 열려서 가지가 휘어집니다

The first harvest of the year in my farm came from Cherry silverberry.

My wife tried to make a liquid souse by soaking them in brown sugar powder last year.

It did'nt work well.

We are picking them just for eating these days..

We regret planting two trees. They produce too many fruits to consume...

아주 심각하게 글씨 공부하는 근혁이.

진지하긴 한데 아직 한글을 깨칠려면 몇 년 더 걸릴 듯

근혁이는 자폐증을 앓고 있다.

왜 사람들은 쓸데없이 글자를 발명하여 고생하고 있을까?

글씨는 몰라도 나는 매일 매일이 행복하다

He has autistism.

He does not understand why humans walk into trouble by trying to learn something lthey may not need much.

Here in remote rural surroundings, he seems to be very happy. (I guess)

1년 365일 아침마다 걷는 길.

저멀리 어디가 민주지산이나 천만산의 능선..우리는 10년 후에도 이길을 걷고 있을까?

어린 시절의 그 구름들은 다 어디로 갔을까?

It was one of the hottest days since I moved to this place, hitting 35.6 degree Celsius.

However, just staring at the clouds comforted me.

Where have all the clouds that I used to stare during my childhood gone?

어느 대학교 강의를 국도를 따라 2시간 남짓 운전하여 가곤 했다.

한가로운 충북 산골의 국도는 미국 버몬트의 시골길 같은 느낌이 있다

방금 지나친 도로 표시판,

다시 되돌아와서 확인해 봤다.

전혀 낮선 곳에서 발견한 마을 이름

해질녁인데 무리를 해서 비포장 도로 7km를 달려서 도착한 마을은 전국 10대 오지마을이라는 ..

Road 2.

I once taught a class in fall semester in CheongJu. It was fun to drive country roads to commute. It took me almost 2 hours . Many times I felt I was driving somewhere in Vermont, USA.

While I was driving, I realized that I had just passed something very important. Returning to the point, I found the road sign. Later I was told that the willage was one of the ten most remote villages in Korea. Your mobile phone will never work there.

조용한 이웃

이웃의 8순 부부가 논을 둘러 보고 계신다.

초가을의 한적한 논의 정취가 물씬하다.

작년에 찍은 사진이다. 이 논은 올해부터는 인삼 밭으로 변했다. 나이가 드는 것을 막는 방법은 없다. 이것을 받아들인다면 주변은 천국이다.

특히 이 동네의 가을은.....

Quiet neighbor couple,

My neighbor couple in their 80's were looking at their paddy field last year. It was probably their last paddy field work. They quit and rented the field to a ginseng grower this year.

How do you stop aging?

If you accept aging, you may be able to enjoy your surroundings. Here, it is a paradise, especially when autum comes.

이 근방에서 가장 번화한 학산면 버스정류장입니다.

몇 년 전까지는 5일장도 서고 했다는 곳입니다. 제 지인의 아버님이 재작년 다래, 다슬기 등을 사시러 이 5일장을 찾으셨고 제가 안내해드린답시고 왔었으나 헛걸음.

하긴 제가 여기에 온지 5년차에 들어가는데 장이 서는 것을 보지 못했습니다만..

오지마을 버스는 여전히 오지않는 손님을 기다리네요..

없어진 5일 장을 찾아오는 우리도 그렇고..

가을은 깊어갑니다

This is a bus station nearby. This space used to be a market place that was held every 5 days. However, the market was gone away with those farmers who tried to sell theor farm products here. The bus bound to remote villages is waiting for pasengers.. on a quiet Autumn day.....
